========== Cosmic Gate Interview in the run up to Godskitchen 27/2/2010 ======

We at Godskitchen at are all in anticipation for Saturday 27th February. With such a line up on show it would be difficult not to be. These two legends have blessed our ears with their sound over the years as they go from strength to strength and 2009 was no different being a massive year for them. So to see what we are in store for the big night we managed to grab a brief but amazing moment with the almighty Cosmic Gate to tell us what they have been up to and what we should be looking forward to hear from them……

Hey guys, how are you both?

we are good, thanks, we just returned from touring in Brazil and the US, only the cold and snow here at home bother a bit...

So 2009 was a big year for you both with many productions getting support all over the globe and a fantastic position in the Top 100 poll. Any highlights you care to share?

To break into the dj mag top 20 for sure was our highlight of last year, we were touring
in Australia playing the Godskitchen Boombox tour when we heard the news, and been really really happy to receive these news of course!!!!

Your sound has evolved a lot since the early days of Fire Wire, what brought on the change? Are you slowing down as you get older haha?

we think that standing still in music is the first step back, and for us as producers it would be boring to produce the same sound over and over again, so it was not planned to change our sound, it was just a natural process for us, we will always follow our heart for music, not trends.

Now, I hear you’ve been busy in the studio at present, can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been working on or is it top secret?

Our main focus recently was on the 4th chapter of our mix compilation series Back2Back, coming end of February. Doing such a compilation means to spend a lot of time just listening to music again and again to choose your favourite tracks. On top of this we made a new and exclusive track just for this CD. This time we had the luck to mix the compilation in Rio de Janeiro, where we spent a week during some gigs.
That was just a great experience and gave us the perfect mood to work on such a mix album. Now, being back home, we find ourselves again in the studio because of a great amount of remix requests, that we are working on right now... So keep your eyes and ears open, thereґs loads of stuff to come:-)

Nic – You have also dabbled with some solo work in recent times, how would you say your solo sound differs to the Cosmic Gate sound?

First from time to time itґs nice to work on some things alone. Itґs always good to have a second opinion, but itґs also great to have your personal freedom to do just what you think yourself and to do your own thing.
I really enjoy this while doing my Nic Chagall solo stuff and it definitely shows my love for the more progressive side of the so called "Trance", if you wanna pigeonhole the music. It wasnґt planned, but it seems i also like to include some rock influences in my solo work:-)

Bossi – You have been a lot quieter on the solo front, any particular reason for this?

what most people do not know, is that besides CG i spend a lot time with my Houselabel "Phunkwerk", that I run together with my partner DJ Delicious. e.g. we had the track DJ Delicious + Till West "Same Man" on it 3 years ago, and to run such a label and be involved into the productions also, is costing a lot of time, so now you know about my little secret, lol...

You were both involved in our tour of Australia last year which featured the Boombox, what did you think to it?

this was really an awesome experience to play the Boombox! we had a little tv monitor next to us while spinning, and even for us the animations on this little screen looked amazing, and after seeing some videos of the show, we are def. hoping to be part of another Boombox experience soon!!!

You guys must spend a lot of time on the road together, what would you say are each other’s annoying habits?
we sometimes joke around that we see us more than we see our wife/gf, so maybe we are like an old couple and learn to love the little "special habits" that the other one has, but def. nothing too annoying to talk about.

Can you describe each other in 5 words………

Bossi about Nic: music, studio, family, good food + drinks
Nic about Bossi: music, sports, health, asian food, sunlover

What was the last film you saw? both: 2012, right after seeing the movies director Roland Emmerich in a restaurant in LA, was funny somehow!!!

What is the coolest thing you’ve ever bought yourself?

B: guess for the two of us it was buying the first 1210s, maybe never ever felt so happy again after buying something!!!

Last time you cried?

B:when my baby nephews very serious heart operation went well.

Eat in or take out?

B:depends on the cook, lol
N: Eat in for sure!

Dogs or cats?
Both: dogs

Morning person or night person?

B:bit weird for a dj, but morning person!!!
N: I can get out of my bed quite good in the morning, but am definitely a night person

Finally, tell us your favourite joke at the moment……..

the little Indian asks his father, dady, why is my brothers name little falcon? this is easy my son the chief says. when your brother was born, i looked out of the tent, and a falcon was just flying over me, so i decided to call him little falcon. ah, o.k., and why is my sister called white bunny??? when your sister was born, i looked out of the tent, and i saw a white bunny in the prairie, so i decided to give her the name white bunny. ah, thank you dady! its a pleasure my son!!! but, why are you asking me this, two fucking dogs!?????

Maybe mentioned video was recorded in Rio? Would be great!

http://www.junodownload.com/products/1537591-02.htm
eLRicko watch out! There are previews here! *wink* *lol*

*SPOILER*
Patric La Funk - "Calisto"
Ha! I knew that! *big smile* sounds sexy, funky & exotic as well as "Barra" *wink* Barra pretend to be the best summerish track for me this year so far.

Estiva & Temple One - "November Lovely" (Estiva mix)
Estiva is on fire this year! *yikes* Can't wait for his "Friends & Enemies EP" <3

"Katsu" sounds pretty tasty! I love it!

Mat Zo - "24 Hours" (Oliver Smith mix)
As I said earlier, Olivers remix isn't bad, but can't beat the original from Matan IMO.

"Wanderlust" - OMFG Lange did and amazing job on this track, reminds me old good 2005-2007 tracks when I was getting into trance music... I have no words for describing awesomeness of this bOoOmb! *big smile* Best Track on B2B4 - that's for sure *yikes*

"Staring At The Sea" - top tune from Eco!! like this one

"Ten Minutes To Midnight" - wow... another surprise, nice uplifting track!! not boring and even interesting!

Ronski Speed - "Denva"
Holy fakin crap... *ehh* *ehh* sounds exactly like "Cirez D - On/Off" but with different melody:/ need more sources of inspiration, Ronski? *smile*

CD1 conclusion: OMG so many "balearic" tunes... i am both surprised and little confused *hmm*
CD2 conclusion: much better than CD1... anyway I expected more energetic tunes from whole release...
*END OF SPOILER*

Thank you for reading my essay, bye! *lol*

Ok I failed to keep myself from listening (Just as I thought I would) I was like ah heck why don't just preview maybe one or two tracks... hehe, but before I knew it I was listening through all of them XD I just couldn't stop myself AARGH!!

Anyway, my thoughts:

CD1 is kinda meh for me I think... It has a few amazing highlights though, but most previews leave me cold... Maybe the previews just don't do the justice *wink* I will have to hear the full disk before I make my final verdict. Oh and that First State track is pure earsex! *big smile*

CD2 is the more my kind of thing. It has some more "CG styled" tracks, some of which sound really promising so far! *big smile* So far "Ron Van Den Beuken vs Crossed Eyes - Terminal 44 (MDJ remix)" and "Lange presents Firewall - Wanderlust" stole my heart! *big smile* Wanderlust really has a back2back kind of feel for some reason, Reminds me of the feeling I got with B2B2 (which is the all time B2B winner hehe *big smile* )

Overal judging from these previews, I think this wont be their best B2B album... I remember when I listened to previews from B2B3 (and maybe B2B2 as well) that I felt kinda dissapointed in a same way. But when I listened through the album as a whole a few times, I really got into it and fell in love with it. I think I'll just wait patiently for it arrive here and I'm sure I'll love it alot more;) Maybe I'm just too hyped up and expecting too much all the time xD

Btw Ronski Speed's "Denva" sounds like something I've heard from Richard Durand recently... *pffht* though It's quite catchy... (Edit: Oh wait, I think we're talking about the same track xD Richard made a mashup with it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBpRTNSC7ls )

"Cape Point" is finally something new from Sander... Just not so bad but isn't pretending to be very anthemic tune imo.
"Terminal 44" sounds like 444 other tracks nowadays, unfortunately nothing special for me. I prefer older productions from Maarten.
B2B3 > B2B2 > B2B4 ... now...
I know that time will change our mind about #4 if you know what I mean. It was the same situation as with #3. In 2007 I was like 'umm not bad, nice mix anyway'  but one year after... you know *big smile* I'm listening to #3 only at special occasions and it still sounds fresh and unique *wink*

eLRicko wrote:

Exactly my thoughts *big smile*

"Denva" is probably the biggest fail from Ronski Speed so far, where are good tracks from this man? What's wrong with him? *sad face* such talented producer, he should take longer break from producing, I think...

Btw: I found Alexander Popov - Metropolis (Evgeny Bardyuzha Remix) whatta killer tune *yikes* link -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69APHbivcng ... way better from original. Yes, I know I'm annoying *big smile* haha

Holy F... This tracklist looks amazing... *yikes*

1. Mike Shiver feat. Aruna - Everywhere You Are (Duderstadt Remix)
Couldn't imagine better track for opener, really! Aruna voice - never enough!

2. Glenn Morrison - Another Suggestion
I think this track will be around 120-125 BPM, something slower, warm up *smile*

3. Moonbeam ft. Daniel Mimra - Look Around
Always respecting Moonbeam tracks, pure magic from these guys! Curious how this will sound.

4. Boy Hagemann (Rex Mundi) - Night Vision (Original Mix)
I already know this track (featured on Andy Moor's 'Breaking The Silence' compilation as I remember), not bad, but I expect something more from Rex just like in 'Techanza' which is really nice tune with techno-

influence. Would fit here, trust me.

5. PLF - Calisto
No idea?? *big smile*

6. Blake Jarrell - Galapagos
ASOT 439 opener, I remember this track as a huuge! +1 for picking this

7. Jason van Wyk - Once Again (Original Mix)
??

8. Estiva & Temple One - November Lovely (Estiva Mix)
Wow this is probably the biggest surprise on this compilation, Cosmic Gate playing Estiva? Possible but I can't imagine that.

9. Kyau & Albert - I love You (Cosmic Gate remix)
No words needed *smile* tjoon!

10. Lost Stories - Flight 447
I like 'False Promises' from this duo! Epic summer-ish tune! Could be interesting!

11. First State - Cape Point
No "electro-s**t", please... Sander is copying Cosmic Gate style *hmm* I like his tracks but it's kinda annoying *hmm* please, back to "Time Frame" era *sad face*

12. Michael Angelo & Solo feat. Denise Rivera - Alone (Ashley Wallbridge Remix)
Ups... Ashley Wallbridge ummm I'm afraid but there are Denise vocals <3 should be OK though!

13. Alex Armes - Hypnotize (Original Mix)
??

14. Spartaque & Slava Flash - Open Air
I only recognise Slava Flash from Mr. Sam tracks.

1. Cosmic Gate - Barra
OMG... Something tells me this is BOMB! I wonder what "Barra" mean, sounds exotic *pffht*

2. David Forbes - Katsu (Original Mix)
+11, will be featured also on "Las Vegas '10", heard it on Global DJ Broadcast and it's very different from usual Forbes style, more uplifting than techy!! My recommendation!

3. Mat Zo - 24 Hours (Oliver Smith Mix)
Anjunabeats stuff! I prefer Original Mix, but this is also OK!

4. Lange presents Firewall - Wanderlust
Probably the best track for me so far!!! Absolute clubshiteee!!! LOVE IT! <3 oh and this is what I call bassline.. B2B3-feeling for sure!!!

5. Alexander Popov - Metropolis
Released on AVA (?) sorry, no statement *smile*

6. Rank 1 vs Jochen Miller - The Great Escape (Extended Mix)
Expecting something more from this, call it a disappointment... Maybe need to hear it again?

7. DJ Eco pres. Pacheco - Staring At The Sea
Warning! This is not another track from Eco! Ass-shakin' stuff! *big smile* ...but "And We Fly Away" is way better though *wink*

8. Marco V. - Coming Back (Nic Chagall Remix)
As I said earlier... Everything is awesome, but vocals are ugly... *pffht*

9. Cosmic Gate - London Rain (B2B4 ReDub)
HOORAH, I believe this is more heavier (just like Nic Chagall's "hard dub") waiting!

10. Jer Martin - Ten Minutes To Midnight (Bayer Mix)
??

11. George Acosta feat. Fisher - Tearing Me Apart (DNS Project Remix)
Well... DNS Project has some good and bad tracks. Can't judge it.

12. Ron van den Beuken vs Crossedeyes - Terminal 44 (MDJ Remix)
Not bad, but would be more massive!!

13. Ronski Speed - Denva
Oh another TUNE, I think! Expecting something wicked from this one!

14. Swen Weber - Xonque (Julian Vegas Remix)
??

OK, so we have +/- 7 vocal tracks... I'm satisfied *smile* cover is kinda strange but whatever... *lol* hope for another amazing music journey with Cosmic Gate *big smile*

Barra is a spanish word which means Bar *pffht*

Hello Guys!
Im  probably one of the biggest  cosmic-gate fans down here in MIAMI, But I dont know if its me or Cosmic Gate Albums recently theres tooooooooo much vocals and alot of melody. I know watching them live is awesone, since they started coming to Winter music Conference  for the past 4 or 5 years straight I seen them at least once everytime  they come and everytime they rock, But whatever happen to those Hard beats and Energetic sounds they used to throw at you? PLEASE NIC AND BOSSI Forget about been Commercial and I know vacal trance is the "thing" right now. But Please make a Hard Energetic Trance Albums For all those Fans That thinks that Cosmic Gate are the BEST DJS PERIOD!!!!!

I just download B2B4 , CD1 is soft , the last song is aweson on that cd,  Cd2 is ok I though it was goin to be
alot harder but  theirs to much melody on that cd too.

I still Think Cosmic gate are the best and I can't wait to see them on march 25th,
If i want to buy and album and listen to Melodies, vocal trance (which is not my thing), I would buy PVD  or AVB.

LATZ!!!!!!!!!!!
Cosmic Gate RUles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, it has arrived today! (one week late goddamnit *grr*) But Black Hole kindly appologized to me though, and the fact that it's a signed copy(YEAAAH) makes up for the longer wait!*big smile*

CD1 is currently banging through my speakers, and Moonbeam is teasing my ears right now! So far it started nice  and slow!

I will post a full review when I've listened both CD's!

Ok, so I've finally listened through the album (a few times already *pffht*) And I must say the album gives me a very satisfying mood! Even though not all tracks are not necessarily "right up my alley" but the overal mix ties it very well together! CD2 is a lot more 'techy-er' (which is the more my kind of thing) than CD1. But despite that I can't seem to decide whether I like CD1 or CD2 better *pffht*, they just both are great!

Both CD's definitely have their highlights! I really enjoy:

CD1:
- "Moonbeam feat. Daniel Mimra - Look Around" I just love these guys! almost every one of their productions is just amazing! I've been listening to their stuff ever since I heard their track "Cocoon" from B2B3! (They have an album coming out soon, I'm definitely going to check that one out!)
- "Boy Hagemann - Night Vision" A very nice and techy track!
- "Jason Van Wyk - Once Again" This one really makes me feel like I'm on a vacation! Awesome!*big smile*
- "Kyau & Albert - I Love You (Cosmic Gate Remix)" This one (obviously, hehe *pffht*) is just amazing! This remix has lots of emotions stuffed in it's amazing melody, I could just hear it all day long! GJ CG!*big smile*
- "Lost Stories - Flight 447" Very catchy!
- "First State - Cape Point" At first when I heard it coming into the mix I thought it was the Ashley Wallbridge remix of the track with Denise Rivera. It's baseline sounds like something like Ashley could have made. Nevertheless, an absolutely amazing melody!*big smile*
- "Michael Angelo & Solo feat. Denise Rivera - Alone (Ashley Wallbridge Remix)" A good build up, sweet vocals and definitely one of the best tracks of the album!

CD2:
- "Cosmic Gate - Barra " Just great! It's like a more summerish version of Analog Feel!*big smile*
- "Lange presents Firewall - Wanderlust" I don't know why, but I find this track something that could have come straight of B2B2, I think it gives me a B2B2 feeling:P
- "DJ Eco presents Pacheco - Staring At The Sea" Also a very "vacation-mood" tune. An amazing track to daydream away with!
- "Marco V feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn - Coming Back (Nic Chagall Remix)" All I can say for now is that I want more of this "umph umph" stuff!*wink*
- "Cosmic Gate - London Rain (Back 2 Back 4 ReDub)" I'm very happy CG put this one the album! London Rain is one of my favorites from SOTT, and this ReDub makes it just as enjoyable! I really like the "heavier" baseline!
- "George Acosta feat. Fisher - Tearing Me Apart (DNS Project Remix)" I like the vocals and the awesome breakdown!
- "Ron van den Beuken vs Crossed Eyes - Terminal 44 (MDJ Remix)" Techy stuff just works good on me I guess;)
-"Ronski Speed - Denva" I must admit I find this tune quite catchy, but I still can't wrap my head around Ronski's tracks nowadays, all of his latest stuff are made up of other DJ's samples... Where has the good Ronski Speed gone to? Such a shame...*sad face*

Well, I really enjoy B2B4 and I think it's far better than the previews suggested xD I really got to keep myself from checking previews next time!

Oh and Cosmic Gate thanks for the autographs! The album cover has found a nice display spot on the shelf!*big smile*
